2 first weeks of work!

Hello there!

I know I should write more often, but lately I have been busy (this sentence is getting old, I need a new one). I have been working for 2 weeks now!
There things are quite great, lots of things to do, to improve and to optimize, which is something I love. Where I work they make some airplanes parts, maintenance, repair and overhaul of airplanes and some tests of a fighter plane (Harrier). To be more precise, where I am they manufacture "wires" and parts for the cabin of the planes.

What do I do there? Well, my first task has been to meet everyone and try to remember a hundred names, fortunately in Spain we don't have much imagination and you can always say "Antonio" or "Pepe" and somebody will surely answer. After that I have studied the manufacturing process and the new system they want to follow, in order to make it work as it should and solve every problem I can.
It's a job of management and coordination of the different teams in the Airbus Military facility where I have to use all the leadership I have and my social skills at the same time that I apply the management knowledge I am getting in the master classes. It is actually very interesting to have around 65 people depending on you directly and 15 more indirectly, to coordinate different teams (not only manufacturing, also engineering and design, quality control and a few more) is a task that is making me feel much more enthusiasm for it than I expected.

Not everything is great tho, I miss airplanes. In the building next to mine they work with 3 to 5 airplanes and at the coffee break we go to visit them, but it's not the same. The good thing is that the guy who was previously in my position got hired and now he is working directly with the new A400M team, which is like a dream come true.

And one last thing: I'll go to Sweden in 25 days, I'll arrive on December 26th around 22:40.

Night out

This is the final weekend before my new life starts. Lots of work both in the company and in my master studies wait for me patiently, but before all of that I had to enjoy and see good friends of mine:

I had a wonderful time with them but one can't avoid think about the girl so far away in Sweden called Simone. I just wish all the 4 of us can share these kind of great moments together.

Another Swedish Adventure

Hello there!

Finally I am back and ready to continue with my blogs, I'm sorry I couldn't write before but I was too busy having the best time ever in Sweden with my chica, her family and friends.

I must say that it was a long trip, first I had to go to Málaga by train, where I'd spend part of the night (I was at the airport around 05:00). After that, 4 hours inside an airplane would bring me to Sweden.

But it was totally worthy, great food, great landscapes and definetly just the best company ever. First with her family, those wonderful people who have always treated me so well. And then just she and I side by side. The days went just too fast, we survived a storm (it wasn't that bad), celebrated her birthday, went for walks in the nature...

The awesome Swedish nature! Just by going to your backyard you can get into a forrest, find a castle and lakes (of course, the country is full of beautiful lakes). It is specially beautiful now in Autumn and it wasn't as cold as it can get so our walks were just lovely.

Unfortunately everything comes to an end, even things as good as this. After 11 days which passed as a dream it was time to say goodbye, get into a train and have farewell for the moment. I can't say I'm used to it and I will always find farewell bitter, but it couldn't turn sour the great time I had there.

Now it is time for me to start with my Master and job at Airbus Military. It seems that I will be in a place where they work with this bad guy:

5 days to go!

So, what do you do when you are in Spain, have finished all the paperwork needed for the new master you are starting and got huge amounts of free time until the middle of November? You book a flight to Sweden :-)

Time to fly again from Málaga to Skavsta, just 5 days left and I can't stop that tickling feeling in my stomach that I have always had everytime I have gone up there. Now it is time to get everything ready, grab my winter clothes (Spanish winter clothes = South of Sweden Autumn) and pack it into the suitcase.

So time to go, I'll update my aerospace blog tomorrow evening and I'll try to leave everything ready for the next couple of updates there. If I have time I'll upload some new pictures in Sweden over here.

Awesome news!

Hey there!

Finally some good news: I'm going to do a Master within Airbus! It includes theorical classes and an internship working within Airbus facilities here in Sevilla! It means that in a year I'll have a year of experience and a master's degree :D

But, what does that also mean? SWEDEN! Since the master doesn't start until 14th November I'm going to Sweden to visit my so loved girl :-)

From Thursday 24th October to Sunday 3rd November I'll be in Sweden with her, 11 days before I start with this new great opportunity for my career.

Interesting job interview!

Hello everyone,

What are the odds of going to a job interview in another city and find an old teacher of yours waiting for you? That's what happened to me on Thursday. It was honestly the most relaxed interview I have ever been, a small, interesting company in Córdoba where I could learn a lot.

And this week I will receive the answer from both them and Airbus, the biggest aerospace company in Europe. I will let you know how it goes :-)

In the meanwhile I continue studying languages, writing on my other blog ( weeklyaerospace.blogspot.com ) and of course looking for flights to go to Sweden, where she is waiting for me with a new-old bike for me to fix (I must say I will enjoy getting my hands dirty).

Sport, steaks and theatre!

Such a non-stop weekend!
Have you ever tried running under the rain? Well, on Friday my family, a couple of friends and I ran for 8 km and 500 m around Sevilla in a race that started at 22:00 and in which 20.000 people were signed in. We knew it was going to rain but I think none of us expected the consequences of it.
Anyway it was quite pleasant to run without the horrible heat that we have had the last few weeks. My brother and I made a great time in the race and didn't get a cold.

Routine

That's my everyday life now: routine.

A lot of job hunting and studying English and German (I wish it could be Swedish instead, but there are not as many jobs as I would like for me in Sweden), but new personal projects are in my mind, I just need a couple of days more to start them.

And of course I have to visit my great girlfriend, who is in Sweden studying a lot and working very hard. Unfortunately the Málaga-Malmö route will stop working in a couple of weeks, but I have already checked busses from Skavsta to Linköping and trains from Linköping to Växjö so everything will be fine :-)

Next project: Aviation blog

I finally confessed to somebody else than mi chica the fact that I am thinking about writing a new blog only about aviation. There I'd write mostly about what I know: Airplanes, how they work, how and why they flight, their systems, curiosities and so on. That wouldn't mean me not writing here, I will keep this alive (as much as I can, I'm busy even now that I'm unemployed).

This person I spoke with was my very good friend Ricardo, an university pal who I have worked a lot with the last years of my education. He is a bit miarma but that's fine, reliable guy ;-)

Talking about aviation, do you know that I piloted an airplane this Summer? Probably most of you know that, but this is the story with a couple of pictures:

This is the airplane itself.

So one afternoon at the beach a friend of mine got a call from a friend of his, his friend wanted my friend to fly and he told me so. Since he didn't remember what I am I told him: "hey, do you know that I'm an aerospace engineer?" that led into him telling his friend that I was an engineer and I got an invitation to fly!

The airplane was built by the owner, Mario, following instructions and having it checked by an engineer like me. That's something I have wanting to do for some years now, but I first have to find a job and time before I start building my own airplane.

And this is what you see when you are inside.

In the air I just could not stop smiling, it's honestly one of the best feelings ever. You feel just free to move in whatever direction. This first time I got to fly it in a straight line and do a couple of smooth turns, I think I couldn't stop smiling after that for the rest of the day. Definetly to fly is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifes.

So that was today's update. The second best thing in my Summer, the best one was when mi chica came to me from the North Pole.

Back from holidays

Hello there!

It is not that I forgot about the blog, it is that from the day I become an engineer I stopped having internet due to holidays. How were my holidays? Well, quite awesome indeed! She went from the North of Norway to Sweden and then she came to Spain, to La Costa del Sol to be with me.

Now there are a lot of things to do, lots of companies to contact and maybe even creating a new blog about aviation, I think that could be interesting and fun.

So, keep being awesome, I'll write more often now ;-)

Me, aerospace engineer.

So, 6 years later here I am. From yesterday I am an Aerospace Engineer (MSc. and BSc.). I got a 10/10 on my thesis work, which is always great and I got congratulations from my thesis advisor and some other teachers for my good work.

After moths sleeping poorly I think that a rest wouldn't hurt. But now it is time for me to find a job. To find a job will be my job and as always when I have a project I will do it perfect, as with my thesis, the closest that I have had to a real engineering job.

But that's for myself, what I want to share with you is that yesterday, after knowing that I am an engineer, we went for dinner to have one of the greatest pieces of meat that I have ever had. Here you have a picture of it:

It was bigger than what it looks, the plate was huge. That means that it was perfectly a 1 kg steak. And I ate it and it was probably the best one that I have ever had. Food is so great in Spain, it really is, but that won't stop me from trying food from all over the world.

What's in the future for me? Well, I have an interview next week and a German company is interested in me. To find a job is a priority to me now, but in the meanwhile I will have a visit from my great Swedish flicka. And who knows, maybe I give her another visit in September :-)

That's it, after a wonderful time with her living here again it is time to say hasta luego for a couple of months. Whatever happens next is something that I don't know, but for sure the next time I meet her I'll be an engineer and hopefully with a good job starting soon.

Talking about that it seems that a few companies are interested in me and soon I'll start having job interviews, let's see how they go :-)

Now, after this wonderful week and a half enjoying life, it is time to start working hard. As hard as it gets to finish forever with this university in July. My thesis advisor says that I'm doing a good job and that I shouldn't have problems in making a presentation of my work by the end of July. Exams are going well (this year I'm having exams during the year, not only at the end of it) and I'm passing everything.

Job hunting - Búsqueda de empleo

Buenas,

Ha llegado esa etapa en la que todos (excepto los muy afortunados y los muy desafortunados) hemos estado o vamos a estar alguna vez en la vida: buscar trabajo.
Dicen que buscar trabajo ya es un trabajo en sí, lo cierto es que cuanto menos es agotador: Buscar empresas, vacantes en las empresas, programas de internships/recién graduados para entrar, anotar fechas límite para aplicar, localización, ver la dificultad de encontrar alojamiento en esa zona, idiomas, CV, cartas de presentación y de recomendación... Mandar emails y siendo tan impaciente como soy yo tener que esperar contestaciones (es mucho peor que cuando esperas para saber una nota).

Escribir correctamente la carta de presentación en un idioma que no es el tuyo nativo. Yo hablo inglés casi con la misma fluidez que el español, pero las patadas que le meto al diccionario (sobre todo con las preposiciones) de la lengua de Shakespeare son considerables. Repasar y re-repasar, incluir palabras clave, personalizar para la empresa y la oferta en concreto, no repetir lo que hay en el CV (que tampoco es mucho) y tratar de agradar e impresionar sin apabullar, dando preferencias, ofreciendo flexibilidad, ganas de trabajar y de seguir aprendiendo.

La verdad es que el ambiente pesimista en el que se encuentra sumido mi país no ayuda a mantener una mentalidad positiva. Las (tristes) noticias sobre corrupción pasan de lo irreal y la gente ya ve normal cosas que a mí, personalmente, me revientan.

Por suerte la semana pasada hubo una feria de empleo en mi escuela de ingeniería, donde varias empresas vinieron buscando ciertos perfiles. Mientras espero varias respuestas sigo buscando y buscando, afortunadamente mi campo parece ser que está en plena expansión. Todo eso sin dejar de lado los estudios, pues la idea es terminar en Julio.

Mucho más agradable que todo el asunto laboral es que el jueves de la semana que viene recibiré una visita desde Suecia de la persona más maravillosa del mundo, la cual hace que me levante día sí y día también a estudiar y acabar lo empezado para poder echar el vuelo (que dado que tendré que ir en avión y soy cuasi-ingeniero aeronáutico tiene cierta gracia).

Chuletones y Snowboard: La buena vida

Otro nuevo pequeño episodio de mi pronto extinta (esperemos que sí, aunque me gusta lo que estudio ya estoy un poco harto, pero eso da para otra entrada) vida estudiantil: una excursión al centro de España para comer un buen chuletón, beber tinto y hacer snowboard con mi querida familia.

Y oh, ¿qué es esto? Nieve! En España! Pues sí, aquí también tenemos nieve, no tanta como en Suecia pero sí que tenemos buenas pistas para esquiar. Poca gente bajando (pero mucha subiendo, había un poco de cola):

Respecto a lo que dije la semana pasada ya está todo bien, no sé por qué pero fue sólo un día, supongo que algo me sentaría mal. Los estudios van bien, no tengo tiempo libre pero bueno, he decidido descansar un poco este fin de semana para no explotar.

Enfermo

Aunque ya recuperándome, ayer de repente tuve que dejar la clase, algo que yo nunca he hecho, debido a lo mal que me encontraba. Un poco de aire fresco me sentó bien, pero el final de aquello me lo llevaba esperando ya unas horas.

Ahora ya me siento más o menos bien, vacío por dentro (aunque tengo una infusión y un poco de pan con aceite). Hoy para comer algo ligerito: pechugas de pollo a la plancha. Supongo que todo es que me sentó mal la comida de ayer. ¿El motivo? Pues no lo sé, quizás el huevo estaba en mal estado (es curioso, nadie más parece verse afectado) o puede ser el estrés (según dice Simone).

Así que hoy ha tocado día de trabajo en casa.

Un poco más cerca de la meta

Por fin sé todos los resultados de mi primer parcial de este último curso. He conseguido aprobar 7 asignaturas, pero he tenido 8. He tenido que dejar 1 de ellas para Julio (es el 10 de Julio el examen) debido a mis vacaciones de 10 días en Suecia, pero valió mucho la pena :-) De todos modos creo que no es un mal resultado, no he conseguido mala nota media y ya estoy a sólo unos pocos créditos del final definitivo.

Ahora mismo estoy trabajando en mi PFC, pero no puedo dejar de pensar en cierta personita. La echo mucho de menos, sobretodo porque el año pasado a estas alturas del curso se vino a vivir conmigo, lo cuál fue de lo mejor que me ha pasado. Pronto vendrá otra vez a quedarse unos días, pero mientras tanto hay mucho que estudiar y mucho en lo que trabajar para en unos meses poder ser ingeniero.

Días románticos

Cuantos en qué poco tiempo!
Quizás para muchos sólo haya sido San Valentín, o incluso a otros les de igual o piensen que es una invención de El Corte Inglés. Y puede que tengan razón.

Pero justo antes del día 14 de Febrero está el día 13, día en el que ella y yo formamos una pareja. Realmente no fue en Febrero, sino en Diciembre, pero lo importante es que fue el día 13, nuestro día aunque a algunos dicho número les suscite mala suerte (nada más lejos de la realidad, es un magnífico número).

Y con estas fechas especiales un pequeño detalle suyo me ha hecho el ser humano más feliz del universo, además me ha enviado un poco más de chocolate sueco, que siempre viene bien porque no sé cómo pero se me acaba :-(

Sin duda uno de los días más especiales, el 13 de cada mes, que hace que pese a la distancia que hay, me sienta un poco más cerca.

Primer día de clase

Ya estamos de nuevo, la vuelta al cole tras mis inmensas vacaciones de 36 horas.
Para empezar ha sido un día bastante suave en cuanto a clases se refiere, pero ahora mismo tengo una carga de trabajo encima un tanto apabullante. 2 trabajos por hacer (bueno, terminar) antes del viernes, mucho por hacer en mi PFC, mañana veré a mi tutor en clases (y supongo que querrá hablar para reunirnos la semana que viene), muchas ofertas de trabajo para mandar mi CV, inglés y sueco por estudiar, una maravillosa persona en Suecia con la que hablar, amigos a los que atender, cientos de libros por leer y varias películas y series por ver.
Como veis no tengo mucho tiempo, así que lo poco que puedo escribir es corto. El último semestre de mi vida académica acaba de empezar y hay que empezarlo con buen pie.
Y cada día queda un poco menos para que Ella venga a visitarme en Abril :-D no puedo esperar, soy demasiado impaciente.

Un poco de descanso

Por fin he acabado, por ahora.

Tras el último examen del primer parcial esta mañana, un buen almuerzo y una buena siesta me toca seguir descansando un poco por hoy. Necesito despejarme y relajarme, quizás salga un rato esta noche con algún buen amigo, de los que aún quedan.

Pero todo ha sido mucho más llevadero gracias a su ayuda, ella siempre está ahí para apoyarme y decirme que estudie y que acabe pronto la carrera :-) Ya no falta mucho, sólo un parcial en el que tendré que terminar mi Proyecto Fin de Carrera y las últimas asignaturas.

Y poco más tengo que decir, quizás mañana me encuentre más inspirado, ahora sólo quiero relajarme y disfrutar de mi día de vacaciones.

Ya van 2 exámenes hechos de 4 que tengo que hacer. Ya tengo algunas asignaturas aprobadas y estoy a la espera de más resultados :-)

No sabéis lo frustrante que puede ser estudiar en España. No por la dificultad (que la tiene), sino por la pésima organización y la nulidad de gran parte del personal docente. La situación es la siguiente:

Dos amigos y yo estamos en un grupo y tenemos que hacer un proyecto juntos. Lo hacemos, lo imprimimos y se lo entregamos en mano al profesor el día 15 de Enero. A su vez, ese mismo día se le envió por correo electrónico el documento en formato pdf. Esa asignatura se divide en 3 parciales: 2 mitades del temario que se da en clase y el trabajo, si no apruebas algo antes del final (el miércoles que viene) pues tienes que hacer un examen.

Anteayer este genio de la docencia subió un archivo a una página común en la que se cuelgan las notas de los exámenes, pues bien, casi la mitad de las personas aparecían como que no habían entregado el trabajo, entre ellos mi grupo (tras haber entregado el trabajo 2 veces). Tras unos 7 emails y haberle mandado el trabajo nuevamente por fin ha subido hoy un nuevo archivo actualizado en el que dice que sí hemos entregado lo que hemos hecho.

¿Y bien? Todo solucionado. Sí, pero ¿cómo puede una persona así tener ese puesto de trabajo? Un archivo que se le envió 2 veces y él pretendía hacernos un examen sobre vete tú a saber qué por no haber entregado algo que sí se entregó (de hecho fuimos los primeros) y que está muy bien hecho. Un desastre de persona.

Por otra parte el resto de mi vida está bastante bien. Sigo teniendo a Ella igual de lejos que siempre, pero cada día que pasa acorta un poco la distancia :-) la echo mucho de menos, también a su familia y a Suecia. Sigo con mis lecciones autodidactas de sueco, aumentando el vocabulario y mejorando en la medida de lo posible mi pronunciación y fluidez al hablar. Al menos las tareas básicas del día a día (e incluso una vez compré un billete de autobús) las sé.

Ahora, hasta el sábado que viene, día en el que tengo el último examen, toca estudiar muy duro, así que a por ellos, Keep Pushing!

Primera prueba superada

Primera prueba del curso: 4 exámenes en 3 días, superada. Ya tengo la nota de 2 de ellos, un 8,5 y un 6, que me han hecho aprobar 2 asignaturas de este semestre.

Todo sea dicho, eran exámenes parciales, nada que ver con lo que siempre he tenido en años anteriores, de un examen para una asignatura de 4 meses de duración, pero bueno, parece ser que por ser éste el último año de la carrera las cosas se hacen con un poco (sólo un poco) más de lógica en esta escuela.
Ahora no tengo clases, no volveré a tenerlas hasta el 11 de Febrero y mientras tanto tendré otros 4 exámenes, pero serán más serios (y algo más largos) que los que he tenido esta semana.

Además me han dado un resultado, un 8,5 en unos proyectos sobre aerodinámica. Esa era la última asignatura que me quedaba de 4º, lo que quiere decir que ya soy lo que en inglés se conoce como "Bachelor of Sciences in Aerospace Engineering" y además tengo algunas asignaturas aprobadas del máster, eso siguiendo los planes de estudio de la prestigiosa escuela KTH de Estocolmo, en la que por algún extraño motivo es más fácil aprobar que aquí. Supongo que por eso los alemanes se vuelven locos con los ingenieros españoles, pues en ningún sitio (quizás en Francia sí) tienen la dureza que hay aquí durante los estudios. ¿Cómo lo sé? Pues porque he conocido a varios Erasmus de Polonia, Alemania, Francia, Inglaterra, Holanda y algún otro país que me dejo en el tintero, que vienen aquí y a pesar de ser de las más prestigiosas escuelas no aprueban nada.

¿Qué quiero decir con esto? Que los planes de estudio y la metodología de evaluación llevada por una gran mayoría de profesores españoles (hay excepciones como el de los proyectos de aerodinámica o mi tutor del proyecto fin de carrera) es absurda y a lo único que lleva es a una criba de estudiantes que se dejan los sesos por el camino para aprobar un examen.

Y ahora se me plantean nuevas oportunidades: resulta que Airbus va a generar unos 3.000 puestos de trabajo aquí en Andalucía. Pero dada la gran cantidad de nuevas ofertas que se me presentan en Suecia cada día creo que no hay duda posible. Pienso que un perfil como el mío no tendrá ningún tipo de problema, más cuando allí tengo a la persona más maravillosa del mundo esperándome :-)

Época de exámenes

Ya sin duda, estamos metidos en una de ellas, en una de las últimas, afortunadamente.
La semana que viene tendré 4 exámenes parciales, lo cual quiere decir que no van a haber demasiadas noticias sobre mí.

Por aquí va todo bien, no hace nada de frío en comparación con Suecia y se echan de menos bastantes cosas de allí, quizás porque cuando voy siempre estoy de vacaciones jeje. Los suecos vienen a España de vacaciones en verano y yo voy a Suecia de vacaciones en invierno, ¡el mundo al revés!

Sigo buscando y guardando ofertas de trabajo, ya tengo decenas de oportunidades que se adaptan a mi perfil particular, a principios de febrero, en cuanto acabe los exámenes y tenga algo más de tiempo, revisaré mi CV y a ver qué pasa.

Espero volver pronto, pero antes espero que Ella venga a visitarme :-D

De vuelta

Pues ya estamos de vuelta, en la misma habitación de siempre haciendo lo que siempre hago: Estudiar.

Aunque hoy es un día dedicado a la organización, hay mucho por preparar para las siguientes semanas en las que tendré bastante que hacer y no demasiado tiempo libre, pero todo esfuerzo tiene su recompensa. La mía es que ya veo la luz al final del túnel, mi periodo como estudiante va llegando a su fin y nuevos proyectos, más ambiciosos que unos simples exámenes o trabajos de la universidad llegan a mi cabeza.

Estos días de desconexión total han sido debidos a que he estado en Suecia junto con mi chica, una foto para demostrarlo:
