Sobre mí: las cosas claras

Las cosas claras.

Los chuletones poco hechos, el vino tinto y el whisky solo. La cerveza fría, los amigos de verdad. Las sonrisas sinceras, las palabras directas y sin dobles sentidos. Puntualidad, respeto y honestidad. Ni falsos humildes ni prepotentes.

El trabajo duro, que te haga esforzarte al máximo. Y la verdad siempre por delante en todos los sentidos. No soporto a la gente que trata de engañar, a la que se escabulle ni a los que llegan tarde. No creo en la suerte fuera de lo que el propio azar significa en, por ejemplo, un juego de dados o la lotería.

No entiendo el arte moderno. Prefiero las cosas que requieren un esfuerzo y no dos brochazos en un lienzo en blanco. Podéis llamarme ignorante pero siempre preferiré un Monet a cualquier gafapasta ruso que le ha quitado (o dado) rotuladores a su hijo de 3 años.

Me encanta la comida, en especial la carne. No quiero ni leche de soja ni de coco. Me gusta el café caliente, las tostadas con aceite, tomate natural y jamón. Me aburren las ensaladas y los precocinados. Entiendo a los que no quieran comer animales, pero no a los que defienden que un plato vegetariano es más sano por ser vegetariano, ni a los que ven el ser vegetariano como algo mejor.

Detesto el marketing, la publicidad y a los vendehumos. Evito ver la tele por este motivo. Prefiero tener el control, también en este ámbito, de lo que veo. Disfruto tomando decisiones, analizar las distintas opciones. Disfruto del camino y del destino.

Me gusta conducir y me encanta volar, pilotar un pequeño avión es algo inigualable. Uno de mis mayores sueños es diseñar, construir y pilotar mi propio avión, algo que ya ha empezado a hacerse una realidad.

Me apasiona saber cómo funcionan las cosas, desmembrar lo más complejo posible en pequeños mecanismos simples para volver a montarlo en mi cabeza y tener una idea clara de todo el proceso, desde el simple funcionamiento de un motor hasta ver cómo un negocio es rentable o no.

Y divertirme. Dar un paseo con mi chica, ir al cine, jugar a los bolos, hacer snowboard, tomar una cerveza con los amigos, jugar un partido de pádel o de fútbol, cocinar en una barbacoa... Trato de disfrutar de cada momento de placer que tengo y sacarle todo el jugo.

2014

So, if I thought that 2013 was a great year, this one was even better! Lots of changes, lots of achievements and lots of great people around me.

Situation at the begining of the year:

 - Started the year studying a master and working at the greatest aerospace company in Europe (Airbus) as an intern.
 - Continued living with my parents (yes, I know...).
 - I was 24 at the begining of the year.
 - Started the year in Sweden, in the beautiful Stockholm with my so beautiful Simone and her very nice friends.

Current situation:

 - Got my master degree (my 2nd one in the European system) and said goodbye to a lot of people from work that somehow will always come with me.
 - Got a job at a subcontractor of Airbus to go to Bremen.
 - Moved to Bremen!
 - Got my first flat, which is small (35 sqm) but nice and big enough for one.
 - Visited Hamburg.
 - Improved my German.
 - Turned 25, I'm so much wiser and mature than before... Not really.
 - Back home for Christmas (like the "turrón", a Spanish sweet that we only eat at Christmas).
 - Tickets to go to Sweden again all ready to go.
 - Still having great people around me.
 - And my family is finally going to Sweden!

So, very positive balance, lots of changes but one constant thing: people around me. Fact of which I am very grateful. But still have some things to do!

 - Watch the last movie of The Hobbit.
 - Find a restaurant for dinner in New Year's Eve in Stockholm.
 - Find a substitute to "the Pirate Bay".
 - Find a car (that will be moved to 2015).

Greetings from Germany

So the adventure for this one continues in Germany, in a small and charming city called Bremen. I came here because of work, starting on a completly new project that will last a long time, hopefully.

People here are being so nice, contrary to what most spaniards think. I really feel welcome and appreciated. Some pics of the city:

So yes, things are going great over here, waiting for Christmas to come so I can see both my family and my sweet girl. Today, for our 5th anniversary I went to IKEA, a small piece of her country that can be found almost anywhere and that is always a welcome sight. There I could dream alive about how our future home would be (and also found that 90% of my flat furniture is from there).

Leaving to Germany!

So that's it, my adventure in Spain is reaching to an end. I know I haven't writen here much, but here you have a small summary:

 - This last year I have been working at Airbus and studying a master offered by that company, at the same time.
 - That contract has finished, so I was unemployed.
 - A week after that, I got a call for an interview.
 - Some phone calls, medical tests and so, I have got a new job for which I'll go to Bremen, at the North of Germany.

In the meanwhile I have also been looking for a car and so, here in Spain, but that has to stop since I'm moving. I need an awesome car for the awesome guy!

This new job will have some training here in Spain during the second part of November, right after I come back from England, where Simone is. Then, they want me to get a training in Bremen for a month and that's it, time to work for real from 01/2015.

Exciting project and facts to happen ahead of me. Of course I will open a new blog in which I'll write my adventures there. It's time now to make a list of the things I need to take care of before I leave.

That's it, life always goes on and the world continues spinning.

What's new could you ask? Well, I'm still not ready to tell my summer in Sweden, which was great, but there are things over here going on:

 - Master thesis: Finished and handed in, it cost me 17 days from the start till the end, awesome, huh?
 - Work: Still working and it seems I'm more wanted than ever. When my contracts ends in a couple of weeks they are going to miss me. Anyways my boss is trying to pull the strings for me to stay around :-)
 - Girlfriend: In England right now. Missing her so very much...
 - Awesome brother: Studying to be an Aerospace Engineer!
 - Car: Still don't have it, but it seems I have an agreement with the seller of this one:

Yes, it is small and a 2 seater, but in my actual one I only use 1 seat out of 5, except when I have to drive my brother somewhere, which is going to end because he is getting his licence :-)

Just a short summary of my life, to keep my readers updated. I'm right now planning a visit to England ^^

Back from holidays

First of september, first day of work after such a wonderful holiday and let's try to start the old habbit of blogging.
During this time I have been quite busy working, studying the master and visiting Sweden as much as posible, it definetly feels as my second home, a great part of my life.
And there I have spent most of my holidays this summer, travelling around the country, taking pictures with my great and beautiful Swedish woman, I'll tell you a bit more about that, let's take this as a warm up entry.

2 first weeks of work!

Hello there!

I know I should write more often, but lately I have been busy (this sentence is getting old, I need a new one). I have been working for 2 weeks now!
There things are quite great, lots of things to do, to improve and to optimize, which is something I love. Where I work they make some airplanes parts, maintenance, repair and overhaul of airplanes and some tests of a fighter plane (Harrier). To be more precise, where I am they manufacture "wires" and parts for the cabin of the planes.

What do I do there? Well, my first task has been to meet everyone and try to remember a hundred names, fortunately in Spain we don't have much imagination and you can always say "Antonio" or "Pepe" and somebody will surely answer. After that I have studied the manufacturing process and the new system they want to follow, in order to make it work as it should and solve every problem I can.
It's a job of management and coordination of the different teams in the Airbus Military facility where I have to use all the leadership I have and my social skills at the same time that I apply the management knowledge I am getting in the master classes. It is actually very interesting to have around 65 people depending on you directly and 15 more indirectly, to coordinate different teams (not only manufacturing, also engineering and design, quality control and a few more) is a task that is making me feel much more enthusiasm for it than I expected.

Not everything is great tho, I miss airplanes. In the building next to mine they work with 3 to 5 airplanes and at the coffee break we go to visit them, but it's not the same. The good thing is that the guy who was previously in my position got hired and now he is working directly with the new A400M team, which is like a dream come true.

And one last thing: I'll go to Sweden in 25 days, I'll arrive on December 26th around 22:40.

This is the final weekend before my new life starts. Lots of work both in the company and in my master studies wait for me patiently, but before all of that I had to enjoy and see good friends of mine:

I had a wonderful time with them but one can't avoid think about the girl so far away in Sweden called Simone. I just wish all the 4 of us can share these kind of great moments together.

Another Swedish Adventure

Hello there!

Finally I am back and ready to continue with my blogs, I'm sorry I couldn't write before but I was too busy having the best time ever in Sweden with my chica, her family and friends.

I must say that it was a long trip, first I had to go to Málaga by train, where I'd spend part of the night (I was at the airport around 05:00). After that, 4 hours inside an airplane would bring me to Sweden.

Where it started.

But it was totally worthy, great food, great landscapes and definetly just the best company ever. First with her family, those wonderful people who have always treated me so well. And then just she and I side by side. The days went just too fast, we survived a storm (it wasn't that bad), celebrated her birthday, went for walks in the nature...

The awesome Swedish nature! Just by going to your backyard you can get into a forrest, find a castle and lakes (of course, the country is full of beautiful lakes). It is specially beautiful now in Autumn and it wasn't as cold as it can get so our walks were just lovely.

Unfortunately everything comes to an end, even things as good as this. After 11 days which passed as a dream it was time to say goodbye, get into a train and have farewell for the moment. I can't say I'm used to it and I will always find farewell bitter, but it couldn't turn sour the great time I had there.

Now it is time for me to start with my Master and job at Airbus Military. It seems that I will be in a place where they work with this bad guy:

5 days to go!

So, what do you do when you are in Spain, have finished all the paperwork needed for the new master you are starting and got huge amounts of free time until the middle of November? You book a flight to Sweden :-)

Time to fly again from Málaga to Skavsta, just 5 days left and I can't stop that tickling feeling in my stomach that I have always had everytime I have gone up there. Now it is time to get everything ready, grab my winter clothes (Spanish winter clothes = South of Sweden Autumn) and pack it into the suitcase.

So time to go, I'll update my aerospace blog tomorrow evening and I'll try to leave everything ready for the next couple of updates there. If I have time I'll upload some new pictures in Sweden over here.

Awesome news!

Hey there!

Finally some good news: I'm going to do a Master within Airbus! It includes theorical classes and an internship working within Airbus facilities here in Sevilla! It means that in a year I'll have a year of experience and a master's degree :D

But, what does that also mean? SWEDEN! Since the master doesn't start until 14th November I'm going to Sweden to visit my so loved girl :-)

From Thursday 24th October to Sunday 3rd November I'll be in Sweden with her, 11 days before I start with this new great opportunity for my career.

Sweden, there I go!

Interesting job interview!

Hello everyone,

What are the odds of going to a job interview in another city and find an old teacher of yours waiting for you? That's what happened to me on Thursday. It was honestly the most relaxed interview I have ever been, a small, interesting company in Córdoba where I could learn a lot.

And this week I will receive the answer from both them and Airbus, the biggest aerospace company in Europe. I will let you know how it goes :-)

In the meanwhile I continue studying languages, writing on my other blog ( weeklyaerospace.blogspot.com ) and of course looking for flights to go to Sweden, where she is waiting for me with a new-old bike for me to fix (I must say I will enjoy getting my hands dirty).

Sport, steaks and theatre!

Such a non-stop weekend!
Have you ever tried running under the rain? Well, on Friday my family, a couple of friends and I ran for 8 km and 500 m around Sevilla in a race that started at 22:00 and in which 20.000 people were signed in. We knew it was going to rain but I think none of us expected the consequences of it.
Anyway it was quite pleasant to run without the horrible heat that we have had the last few weeks. My brother and I made a great time in the race and didn't get a cold.

Routine

That's my everyday life now: routine.

A lot of job hunting and studying English and German (I wish it could be Swedish instead, but there are not as many jobs as I would like for me in Sweden), but new personal projects are in my mind, I just need a couple of days more to start them.

And of course I have to visit my great girlfriend, who is in Sweden studying a lot and working very hard. Unfortunately the Málaga-Malmö route will stop working in a couple of weeks, but I have already checked busses from Skavsta to Linköping and trains from Linköping to Växjö so everything will be fine :-)

Next project: Aviation blog

I finally confessed to somebody else than mi chica the fact that I am thinking about writing a new blog only about aviation. There I'd write mostly about what I know: Airplanes, how they work, how and why they flight, their systems, curiosities and so on. That wouldn't mean me not writing here, I will keep this alive (as much as I can, I'm busy even now that I'm unemployed).

This person I spoke with was my very good friend Ricardo, an university pal who I have worked a lot with the last years of my education. He is a bit miarma but that's fine, reliable guy ;-)

Talking about aviation, do you know that I piloted an airplane this Summer? Probably most of you know that, but this is the story with a couple of pictures:

This is the airplane itself.

So one afternoon at the beach a friend of mine got a call from a friend of his, his friend wanted my friend to fly and he told me so. Since he didn't remember what I am I told him: "hey, do you know that I'm an aerospace engineer?" that led into him telling his friend that I was an engineer and I got an invitation to fly!

The airplane was built by the owner, Mario, following instructions and having it checked by an engineer like me. That's something I have wanting to do for some years now, but I first have to find a job and time before I start building my own airplane.

And this is what you see when you are inside.

In the air I just could not stop smiling, it's honestly one of the best feelings ever. You feel just free to move in whatever direction. This first time I got to fly it in a straight line and do a couple of smooth turns, I think I couldn't stop smiling after that for the rest of the day. Definetly to fly is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifes.

So that was today's update. The second best thing in my Summer, the best one was when mi chica came to me from the North Pole.

Back from holidays

Hello there!

It is not that I forgot about the blog, it is that from the day I become an engineer I stopped having internet due to holidays. How were my holidays? Well, quite awesome indeed! She went from the North of Norway to Sweden and then she came to Spain, to La Costa del Sol to be with me.

Now there are a lot of things to do, lots of companies to contact and maybe even creating a new blog about aviation, I think that could be interesting and fun.

So, keep being awesome, I'll write more often now ;-)

Me, aerospace engineer.

So, 6 years later here I am. From yesterday I am an Aerospace Engineer (MSc. and BSc.). I got a 10/10 on my thesis work, which is always great and I got congratulations from my thesis advisor and some other teachers for my good work.

After moths sleeping poorly I think that a rest wouldn't hurt. But now it is time for me to find a job. To find a job will be my job and as always when I have a project I will do it perfect, as with my thesis, the closest that I have had to a real engineering job.

But that's for myself, what I want to share with you is that yesterday, after knowing that I am an engineer, we went for dinner to have one of the greatest pieces of meat that I have ever had. Here you have a picture of it:

It was bigger than what it looks, the plate was huge. That means that it was perfectly a 1 kg steak. And I ate it and it was probably the best one that I have ever had. Food is so great in Spain, it really is, but that won't stop me from trying food from all over the world.

What's in the future for me? Well, I have an interview next week and a German company is interested in me. To find a job is a priority to me now, but in the meanwhile I will have a visit from my great Swedish flicka. And who knows, maybe I give her another visit in September :-)

That's it, after a wonderful time with her living here again it is time to say hasta luego for a couple of months. Whatever happens next is something that I don't know, but for sure the next time I meet her I'll be an engineer and hopefully with a good job starting soon.

Talking about that it seems that a few companies are interested in me and soon I'll start having job interviews, let's see how they go :-)

Now, after this wonderful week and a half enjoying life, it is time to start working hard. As hard as it gets to finish forever with this university in July. My thesis advisor says that I'm doing a good job and that I shouldn't have problems in making a presentation of my work by the end of July. Exams are going well (this year I'm having exams during the year, not only at the end of it) and I'm passing everything.

Job hunting - Búsqueda de empleo

Buenas,

Ha llegado esa etapa en la que todos (excepto los muy afortunados y los muy desafortunados) hemos estado o vamos a estar alguna vez en la vida: buscar trabajo.
Dicen que buscar trabajo ya es un trabajo en sí, lo cierto es que cuanto menos es agotador: Buscar empresas, vacantes en las empresas, programas de internships/recién graduados para entrar, anotar fechas límite para aplicar, localización, ver la dificultad de encontrar alojamiento en esa zona, idiomas, CV, cartas de presentación y de recomendación... Mandar emails y siendo tan impaciente como soy yo tener que esperar contestaciones (es mucho peor que cuando esperas para saber una nota).

Escribir correctamente la carta de presentación en un idioma que no es el tuyo nativo. Yo hablo inglés casi con la misma fluidez que el español, pero las patadas que le meto al diccionario (sobre todo con las preposiciones) de la lengua de Shakespeare son considerables. Repasar y re-repasar, incluir palabras clave, personalizar para la empresa y la oferta en concreto, no repetir lo que hay en el CV (que tampoco es mucho) y tratar de agradar e impresionar sin apabullar, dando preferencias, ofreciendo flexibilidad, ganas de trabajar y de seguir aprendiendo.

La verdad es que el ambiente pesimista en el que se encuentra sumido mi país no ayuda a mantener una mentalidad positiva. Las (tristes) noticias sobre corrupción pasan de lo irreal y la gente ya ve normal cosas que a mí, personalmente, me revientan.

Por suerte la semana pasada hubo una feria de empleo en mi escuela de ingeniería, donde varias empresas vinieron buscando ciertos perfiles. Mientras espero varias respuestas sigo buscando y buscando, afortunadamente mi campo parece ser que está en plena expansión. Todo eso sin dejar de lado los estudios, pues la idea es terminar en Julio.

Mucho más agradable que todo el asunto laboral es que el jueves de la semana que viene recibiré una visita desde Suecia de la persona más maravillosa del mundo, la cual hace que me levante día sí y día también a estudiar y acabar lo empezado para poder echar el vuelo (que dado que tendré que ir en avión y soy cuasi-ingeniero aeronáutico tiene cierta gracia).

Chuletones y Snowboard: La buena vida

Otro nuevo pequeño episodio de mi pronto extinta (esperemos que sí, aunque me gusta lo que estudio ya estoy un poco harto, pero eso da para otra entrada) vida estudiantil: una excursión al centro de España para comer un buen chuletón, beber tinto y hacer snowboard con mi querida familia.

Y oh, ¿qué es esto? Nieve! En España! Pues sí, aquí también tenemos nieve, no tanta como en Suecia pero sí que tenemos buenas pistas para esquiar. Poca gente bajando (pero mucha subiendo, había un poco de cola):

Respecto a lo que dije la semana pasada ya está todo bien, no sé por qué pero fue sólo un día, supongo que algo me sentaría mal. Los estudios van bien, no tengo tiempo libre pero bueno, he decidido descansar un poco este fin de semana para no explotar.
